I had other stuff in this episode, and it just was not working. It felt so silly to cut back to characters talking about their mild relationship drama when there are two teenage girls trapped in a car with a gun-wielding nut.

Let's be honest: his plan was pretty terrible. "I'll teach Tim a lesson by holding his daughter at gunpoint and forcing him to get me the safe deposit box info, and then I'll... let the girls go?" Not a lot of forethought there beyond his own greedy desires.

Showing them seemed like a necessity, too. Plus you know how much I love giving Diane anything to react to! And it helped with:

I hope this storyline continues because I like the character of Cassandra and now that she's admitted her role in her mother's death, it could make her character even more interesting. I can still see her together with Tim eventually - maybe after he has time to sort things out with Samantha's abduction. He's hating her right now, but I think sooner or later he'll have to admit that she didn't intentionally unleash J.D. on them.

Full disclosure re: Cassandra, and I guess this deserves one of these...
